Last week I met Margo Martindale at a book signing. In case you don’t recognize the name, you undoubtedly have seen her as a character actress:
I was instructed to ask her a question and engage in conversation. We were in Washington, D.C., well actually we weren’t because it was Hollywood make-believe. Our actual location was DTLA at the Omni Hotel but that’s the extent of the details I can share since the show hasn’t aired yet. But I plan on watching it when it does because I have been in it quite a bit.
Sometimes being on set is Magical, other times it’s not. The day we filmed was one of those memorable occasions because of the laughs and light-heartedness.
Margo held out her arm and hand straight as if she were about to pat a child’s head. I remarked, “raising the bar,” to which she quickly replied, “the only bar that interests me is at the Four Seasons. I cackled from her quick wit.
We shared a repartee and she kept touching my arm, over my Oscar de la Renta suit that was very Nancy Reaganish. Although it was purple and black and looked regal it’s not been my favorite, the style does not suit my body but I have had many wardrobe changes reflecting my portrayal as a lawyer, restaurant diner, Gala attendee, book signing attendee, reporter, and journalist.
Margo likes to have fun on set and likes openness and the freedom to be herself. I intuited that she can sense when others are comfortable and responds to them. She seemed tickled that I looked her up and gave her a belated birthday wish and asked how she spent her day.
I suppose people forget that celebrities are people too and are too intimidated to ask questions about their lives. She not only shared her previous weekend but her upcoming summer vacation plans, which I won’t reveal because I will protect her privacy as a friend would.
She left that evening and came over to embrace me. She is a genuine and warm-spirited lady.
There you are!!
