Today I was thinking about love since this would have been my Father's birthday. His zest for life, his ambition, his love of play, and, how driven he was. Unlike other men, he never sat around and watched sports or television. Having his own business, he was always on the go, and the little time he spent at home he was either gardening ( I didn't inherit that love) making home movies, photographing us, playing with us or, looking at plans and drawing up ideas. He wasn't the fix-it type, he would make a call, nor did he ever step foot in the kitchen. He loved to tease my mother ( she was the serious type who would let out a wild cackle with him) talk to his children and we loved his attention and admiration!
Often in our lives, we fall prey to the IDEA of a thing rather than experiencing the thing itself. We see this at play in our love lives and in the love lives of our friends, family, and fictional characters. The conceptualizing, depiction, and pursuit of love are multimillion-dollar industries in the modern world. However, very little of what is offered leads to an authentic experience. Moreover, as we grasp for what we think we want and fail to find it, we may suffer and bring disappointment to others. When this happens, we can be fairly certain that what we have found is not love but something else.
What could it be you ask? If you feel anxious, excited, nervous, and thrilled, chances are that is not the experience of love, but romance. Romance can be a lot of fun as a flirtation and as long as we do not try to make too much of it. If we try to push its boundaries, romance becomes painful. Romance may lead to love, but it will fade without blossoming into anything more substantial. If we cling and try to make it more, we find ourselves pining for a fantasy, or stuck in a relationship that has run its course and was never meant to last. The soul contract is over and it’s time to move on.
There is much conjecture and misunderstanding concerning a soul mate union. When most speak of a soul mate, they think of that one special individual that they will fall in love with and with who upon meeting will live happily ever after. They may even feel as if this one special love has always been a lover through many lifetimes and that you are simply awaiting his or her appearance in this lifetime.
Many souls do encounter one another in lifetime after lifetime and they become friends. This friendship is based in the non-physical world, and the friendship, which in essence is cooperation, is based upon their past success in achieving the growth they are seeking. We are growth-seeking beings, and all encounters, both physical and non-physical, provide expansion opportunities.
The whole point of a soul mate turning up in your life is to show you to yourself. You learn through viewing in the mirror. The Law of Attraction works in every aspect of your life and therefore each person drawn into your life is there through vibration; and nothing else. They are present because your vibration and their vibration are matched in some way.
Real love is identifiable by the way it makes us feel. Love feels good. There is a peaceful quality to the authentic experience of love that penetrates our core, touching a part of ourselves that has always been there and was waiting to ignite. It activates our inner being, filling us with warmth and light. An authentic experience of love does not ask us to look a certain way, live in a certain area, or have a certain profession. It takes us as we are, no changes are required. When others truly love us, their love for us awakens our love for ourselves. There is beauty in that. It’s through interacting with others that we learn more about ourselves than we ever could by being alone. We emotionally grow with the reminder that what we seek outside of ourselves is a mirror image of the love within. In this vein, real love never makes us feel needy, lacking, or anxious. Instead, we are empowered with this message; that we are, always have been, and always will be, made of love.
